On 27 November 2023, six years after their major tour in South America, Cappella Mediterranea returned to the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires with Monteverdi’s The Seven Deadly Sins, having just performed the same concert at the Berliner Philharmonie!

A trip that had been in the planning stages for some time, thanks to a support committee and numerous institutional contacts. All the conditions were in place for a sell-out show. The concert was a success, met with a long standing ovation. The trip included three receptions, hosted by patrons and at the French Embassy, as well as a private tour of the MACBA museum for the artists and a masterclass by Leonardo-García Alarcón at Juventus Lyrica.

Mariana Flores, soprano
Coline Dutilleul, mezzo-soprano
Christopher Lowrey, countertenor
Valerio Contaldo, tenor
Matthew Newlin, tenor
Andreas Wolf, bass
Leonardo García-Alarcón, musical direction

“It will be hard to forget what we experienced at this concert. […] Leonardo García Alarcón’s interpretative innovations are highly compelling; he has succeeded in bringing the repertoire out of a sometimes hackneyed niche, and he has done so with a vitality that is as intense as it is refreshing. This extraordinary laboratory of human emotions in Monteverdi’s work is heard as if newly composed in the hands of the conductor and the magnificent musicians of Cappella Mediterranea”

Laura Novoa

“The performances [by the six singers] were delivered with absolute conviction and exemplary singing. […] Everything was handled, one might say, with extreme precision and great clarity in the musical values.”

Néstor Echevarría

“The result is an absolutely magnificent musical experience, brimming with excellence and virtuosity. An evening conducted by the renowned maestro Leonardo García-Alarcón, who, together with his ensemble Cappella Mediterranea, made the Teatro Colón shine as it hasn’t done for a long time.”

Sosa Battaglia

“Cappella Mediterránea not only filled the Colón, but also received one of the most resounding ovations, worthy of the great evenings in the theatre’s history. […] Twelve formidable instrumentalists who are equally brilliant soloists and excellent ensemble players. It is therefore no surprise that the sound was one of the most beautiful we have heard in a very long time.”
