Rebirth

A recital by Sonya Yoncheva

This project emerged from silence – not only the silence of live music during the global pandemic, but also the silence that precedes the birth of a new creation. Sonya Yoncheva came up with this project ten years ago, at the start of her career. She wanted to show listeners the relevance of Baroque music today. Around the same time, she met Leonardo García Alarcón at the Conservatoire de Genève. When the coronavirus pandemic struck Europe in March 2020, they began a musical dialogue. The project developed organically. The singer would propose songs and the conductor would respond with suggestions of his own, drawing on his in-depth knowledge of the Baroque repertoire.
