Cappella Mediteranea

Mozart, La Flûte enchantée

Cappella Mediterranea and Leonardo García-Alarcón return to the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and director Clément Cogitore to perform a masterpiece of Western music: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s La Flûte enchantée.

A new production by the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence

“Passing through a thousand states of rapture and mystery, a couple journeys from shadow to light, bearing a new ideal for human society. Mozart’s cherished child, whose popular success he watched over until his final hours, marks a miraculous aesthetic and spiritual achievement: its complex simplicity, with a unique diversity of tones and languages, makes it a universal masterpiece in a class of its own, somewhere between enchanting entertainment and noble initiation. But what shadow must necessarily lurk within every luminous utopia when, in the West of yesterday or today, it becomes a reality, when a certain vision of the perfect community enters history? Drawing on the sensory archive of our collective memory, Clément Cogitore invites us to follow the coming-of-age story of young children growing up in a world of fragile beauty and uncertain truth. Leonardo García-Alarcón and Cappella Mediterranea tackle a work by their signature composer for the first time at the Festival, supported by a cast as enchanting as one would expect.”
