Sobre
Semi-opera in 5 acts by Henry Purcell
Libretto by John Dryden. First performed at the Queen's Theatre, Dorset Garden, London, in late May or early June 1691.
New production
Sung in English with English and French surtitles
Famous for its “cold song”, the semi-opera King Arthur tells of the birth of Britain and the victory of King Arthur over the Saxons. To these adventures, in which enchantment and fairy tales combine, is added a love story. How will the valiant hero save his betrothed? Here, Henry Purcell has composed his most elegant stage music in which tragedy alternates with humour.
