\u201cWithout Bach, I wouldn\u2019t be a musician<\/em>,\u201d says Leonardo Garc\u00eda-Alarc\u00f3n. He conducts this Mass in B minor<\/em> as a guest conductor, leading ensembles other than his own. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A work of a lifetime, the Mass took shape over thirty-five years, from 1714 to 1749. Bach gathered into it, through the principle of parody, pieces first conceived for his cantatas, and composed a Mass in the Catholic tradition on Lutheran soil. As early as 1818, Hans Georg N\u00e4geli hailed it as the greatest musical work of art of all times and all peoples. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leonardo Garc\u00eda-Alarc\u00f3n has conducted the Mass in Paris, at the Maison de la Radio, with the Orchestre Philharmonique and the Ch\u0153ur de Radio France; in Montr\u00e9al, as part of the Bach Montr\u00e9al Festival, with the festival\u2019s orchestra and choir (Prix Opus 2025, \u201cConcert of the Year\u201d), and then in Qu\u00e9bec; in S\u00e3o Paulo, with the Orquestra Sinf\u00f4nica do Estado de S\u00e3o Paulo (Osesp) and its choir, a concert awarded the APCA prize for \u201cBest Symphonic Concert\u201d; and at the Verbier Festival, with the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra and the Ch\u0153ur de Chambre de Namur. He will return to it at the Halle aux Grains in Toulouse, with the Orchestre National du Capitole and the Ch\u0153ur de Chambre de Namur, on 17 and 18 April 2027. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n
